Observe the Curve- Focus on Life Week 12

Music is the expression of the movement of the waters,
the play of curves described by changing breezes. - Claude Debussy
Our prompt this week from The Studio Sublime was 'Observe the Curve'. My first thought was- huh? Is she kidding? What the heck does that mean?? And then 'things' started happening in my wee brain. My first thought was of architectural elements. There is a little construction going on down by the river. So I trooped downtown to see if I could see some of the workers doing acrobatics up on the curved roof. But wouldn't you know they'd blocked it off (not enough hard hats to go around, I suppose). Of course if they hadn't, I never would have gone around the other side to see this sight. Women hold up half the sky, after all!

I can look right out my studio window and see the dome (It: duomo) of the Arkansas State Capitol building. I've always loved looking up into domes, so one day when I was shipping off a wee package- because the Capitol houses my nearest post office- I brought along my camera (and set off the alarm) to shoot a few pictures up into the glorious dome. I wanted to lie down on the floor, but I thought that might get me just a little bit more attention than I really wanted. So here is the capitol- inside and out!

I didn't discover curves; I only uncovered them.
- Mae West

And just one more picture, because I like it! Want more more curvaceous observations? Start here...

Laurie! You found yourself some wonderful curves!!! The inside of the Capitol dome is wonderful!

That's exactly what I like about Sally's prompts. There are weeks when I get a 'huh?!' too (this week was one of them) - then I start paying attention. And beautiful things happen when you pay attention: like your beautiful curvilinear moments.
Thanks for sharing - love them all.

Laurie, Your Mae West quote would be perfect on Adrienne's blog. I love it. I join you in loving domes - not sure why but you're right - the Arkansas Capital Building is a lovely one!

I absolutely adore Mae West and that quote is perfect for this week.

I love architecture elements as well and those are some awesome curves.

Your curves are fantastic, but the inside of the dome is pretty awesome! If I had set off the alarm, I would have thought twice about laying on the floor for the shot!

Curves abound. I love looking up into domes as well - St. Peter's in Rome was amazing.

Laurie, you've really captured some great curves! I agree, building and sculpture can have the most impressive curves of all!! I like how your quest unfolded :-)

The first one and the last one are my absolute favorites! The capitol ones are gorgeous too, but those two are very unique :)

Yeah, good call on not lying down on the floor after setting off the alarm :)

This is such a fun post!

Thanks to all of you for looking and for the wonderful comments. Lynne, that curved thing is the beginning of the new roof over the stage down by the river at the farmer's market. The old fabric-y one was blown to bits by some heavier-than-usual winds. What a perfect place to set up a table and sell glass...not!

I love them all especially the first one!

What beautiful curves. I had to laugh, because I would have been the one laying on the floor shooting up! (have been known to do it before)

Beautiful photos. I work for the State of Alabama and I observe people lying on the floor of the Rotunda all the time to get and good picture of the dome. I am sure you lying on the floor would not have been a big deal.
