Aged Beauty- Focus on Life Week 15

Well, two things came to mind right away when I saw this week's prompt from Sally at the Studio Sublime. One was my eyes- well, got the aging part down anyway! And the second was Wabi Sabi. Don't know about that? Well, you'll have to go to that link, because it's complicated- it acknowledges three simple realities: nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

What wabi sabi always makes me think of is the beauty of aging things and all that they;ve seen abd been through like this tree, with its woodpecker holes, knurls and plants that have attached themselves to it. And what happened to this other tree to make it grow in so many different directions?

I found myself looking for little bits and pieces all over the place and just had to dig this odd bit of metal out of the ground. Didn't know what it was at first, but it turns out it's the tooth of a backhoe.

I noticed a couple of old 'express' wagons over by the train station a few weeks ago. Wish I could have gotten closer for these pictures to see all the details better.

And last but not least- that closeup of my poor old eye!

Look here to see more aged beauty!

If trees could talk we would truly learn much.

Yea my first thought was a picture of me... but I decided to spare the readers that ordeal! We have a lovely tree in the front yard but it needs to be in bloom or at least have leaves to really show it's beauty.. not sure if we'll ever get leaves this spring! It snowed again last night but we got less than half an inch before it turned to rain not the 5 inches forecast!

Awesome shots!! Love the wabi-sabi info and the trees are amazing, but I'm in love w/the wagon and the rusty 'tooth'! Your eye(s) are beautiful!

Great post Laurie, I wonder if at one time is a swing was hung from one of the branches on that tree, or how many holes were dug before the backhoe lost a tooth? The old eye belongs to a beautiful Lady.

LOL! Love that you did the self-portrait!

The tree is my favorite - not something I thought about. Wonderful.

Thanks to all of y'all! That tooth was so buried- all I could see was a little bit of the edge. Lynne- hope you get some leaves soon...

I have always loved the wabi sabi concept and the idea of beauty in the imperfections of an object...or life.

Cute eye portrait! :-)
