Well, Sally's done it again- gotten me looking around and thinking about things I don't usually think a lot about.
To quote Liza Dolittle- 'Words! Words! Words! I'm so sick of words, I get words all day through; first from him, now from you! Is that all you blighters can do?'
We are surrounded by words and images. The first thing I though of was the 'graffiti wall' near my house. It gets whitewashed regularly and graffitied twice as often! The junk food junkie is a regular contributor to the wall. I have to admit that I can't read half of what's written there, but it can be pretty interesting nevertheless. Seems every contributor to the wall has his own style. Then I saw a train going by and started thinking about the graffiti that is on the side of many of the cars- kind of a traveling ad, I suppose.
On my walk I saw building names carved in stone, business names imprinted into sidewalks and manhole covers, and company logos. Words and images together can deliver a powerful message- there are some we are so familiar with that we don't even need to read the words to know what the sign is for!

I like Graffiti - I could never understand the frenzy people get into trying to get rid of it! And you have a nice assortment of type!
How wonderful...
A very nice assortment! I enjoy the ones that people have made into art on the sides of buildings...we have several examples of that in the city. Very cool.
Such a cool post this week. You certainly captured the meaning of the prompt.
I love graffiti! I like the junk food junkie graffiti, I wouldn't mind seeing that all the time!
THe graffiti artist did a good job with the ice cream cone... Some graffiti looks great but some just messes up buildings.....
Some graffiti can be so great - I love the junk food graffiti you found - very cool.
You really found some interesting typography this week. I didn't think of manhole covers, and we have some interesting ones in our area.
Great post! I am loving your shots and your walk.
Graffiti is an interesting way to look at this weeks topic. Your pics are great.
Love the ice cream cone graffiti. I was toying with using the Dairy Queen logo this week so I must have ice cream on the brain!
These are brilliant! Never thought of graffiti... but off course, it's typography!
Have a wonderful week :)
Great photos! I like graffiti as long as it is not obscene. I love that quote from Liza Dolittle!
I kinda like the idea that it gets washed over and then springs anew, like you have a new exibit each season! If I were a graffiti artist I would imagine nothing more inspiring than a fresh coat of paint
that is some pretty cool graffiti! great post!! .. and yes to your question on my post today. Can you believe that you are not allowed to take pictures of national landmarks? it apparently is a matter of national security (don't want anyone scoping out the buildings I'm told) - who knew? I felt like a criminal getting chased out!
Great pics I must too admit I do like graffiti of the artistic kind, not much into tagging.
Amazing how we focus in on our surroundings once we get a prompt. Synchronicity at its best! You captured some fascinating shots of your neighborhood.
Love love graffiti! I have a nice album on pintrest of it.
So many words everywhere when you stop and look around. I love your pics.
Oh I like what you did this week! Sometimes graffiti can be art. I like when towns/cities work on getting their graffiti artists to work only in certain parts of town.
